Astrobotic Technology Inc. is extending the commercial space revolution to the lunar surface, with robotic expeditions that deliver payloads at breakthrough prices, gather data, test components, and generate media content.
Astrobotic, a spinout from Carnegie Mellon, serves space agencies, foundation-backed researchers and the aerospace industry. Astrobotic provides powerful Web and TV programming: the first frontier where billions of people using telepresence participate live, alongside the on-site explorers. By establishing the first Internet connection to another world and delivering 3D HD video, the robot will entertain a planet-wide audience as it chats about its adventure.
Astrobotic will launch on the affordable Falcon 9 rocket from SpaceX. Revenue in place includes a $10 million award to deliver lunar data to NASA and a corporate sponsorship from Caterpillar Inc. The company intends to win up to $24 million in the Google Lunar X PRIZE. Investment of approximately $25M.
