| Description: | Playful and Efficient Learning The Babbel way of learning is playful and efficient. With an "intuitive" system that incorporates words and phrases and links them up with sound and image, you can advance in you language studies almost effortlessly. Multimedia language trainers Babbel's Learning Packages You can select from a wide variety of thematic packages which can deal with anything from grocery shopping, to traffic, to flirting in a bar. Each package contains between 20 and 40 words and phrases that relate to the theme. Later you can check back in detail what you have learned. Effective Learning with Multimedia Content Combinations and associations are crucial for committing material to memory and therefore for efficient learning, and the effect is stronger depending on how much contrast these associations incorporate. Intuitive impressions and the feeling they bring with them are especially important. Keeping this in mind, Babbel binds the learning content with pictures, which do not always give the exact meaning of the words, but act as "memory aids", simplifying the learning process. The pictures are not specific illustrations of the words, but rather transmit a certain mood: they are funny, beautiful, strange and sometimes a little scary. Playful Language Trainers Beyond words and images, Babbel also incorporates sound. Multimedia trainers take you through reasonably paced lesson rounds, starting with the "Light Box" trainer. There you will be introduced to the words. You hear – and see images of – words along with their translations in your native language. Next, with "Listen & Match" you match sounds with their image. The "First Letter" trainer then prompts you to remember the first letter of the word you just learned. By the third round it gets a bit more difficult: you will begin to learn phrases with your new vocabulary. Here, with the "Magnetic Words" trainer you put together the words to form sentences and write them out in their entirety. Too tough? Try it out. After each round you get points that are added up every seven days. Who knows, you might reach Babbel's High Score... There are many types of trainers for a variety of learning styles. You have the option of selecting which types of trainers you would like to use, or letting Babbel automatically select the type of trainer for you for an optimal learning experience. Step by Step to Long Term Memory Babbel remembers what you have learned, and a refresher tool then later reminds you to review the words you have already gone through. Every time you come back to your home page, there are suggestions on what it might be best to refresh before you continue on to something new, always keeping vocabulary fresh in your memory. You can also refer back to My Vocabulary, where you will find a full history of the words and phrases that you have learned listed with quick translations in your native language. |
