All along, Bunchball's goal has been to make web sites more engaging. We first did this with our social gaming service, enabling casual multiplayer gaming over the web. Then, while developing our meta-game service — using points, leaderboards, challenges and more to make our games even more insanely engaging — we realized that those mechanics weren't only for games; they could drive any site activity. That brought us to Nitro.
We studied the best in games, social networks and virtual worlds and extracted the key components that were being used to drive behavior, based on the fundamental human desires for reward, achievement, status and competition. Then we dove deep into the field of behavioral economics, learning about the irrational, yet predictable ways that people behave, and how this knowledge could be applied to drive behavior online. We took everything that we learned and built Nitro, our new flagship product.«Less
