Description:	FotoNation Red™: the de facto standard for embedded red-eye detection and correction technology. As of 2008, FotoNation Red has been licensed for use in over 100 million cameras and imaging products where it provides an unparalleled combination of accuracy, robustness, and ease of implementation. In addition to its use in digital cameras and camera phones, FotoNation Red is also found in photo printers, kiosks and PC software. The FotoNation Red embedded software library delivers a detection rate of over 82% with a false positive rate of less than 2% and is considered to be the best in the industry. Detection rates of up to 90% are achievable depending on the specific implementation. Such high detection rates are the result of regression tests performed on a red eye image database of over 5,000 images. These images encompass a wide range of eyes under many different illumination conditions including incandescent, fluorescent, shade, and mixed lighting. Test images have been captured with over 30 different digital camera models, at different resolutions, at varying distances between subject and camera, and with subjects of all ages, iris colors and skin types. Code size for a typical embedded software implementation of FotoNation Red is 100KB. Red-eye detection and correction time can be as little as 0.3 seconds (depending on system configuration). An unlimited number of red eyes in an image can be corrected, – both single red eyes and pairs of red eyes – even on turned or obscured faces. FotoNation has developed a strong patent portfolio, including U.S. Patents #6,407,777 and #7,042,505 for “Red Eye Filter Method and Apparatus”. Approximately 20 additional patents are pending in the U.S., Europe, and Asia. FotoNation has also won many accolades and awards for this innovative technology, including the coveted 2006 European IST Award. In addition to the red-eye embedded software library, FotoNation also makes its patents available for licensing.
