FriendFeed is a service which, instead of layering a meta-network on top of all your other social networks, will create a news feed incorporating them all much like the Facebook news feed. It’s a simple idea that isn’t too difficult or bothersome for social network users to adopt.

The goal of FriendFeed is to make content on the Web more relevant and useful for you by using your existing social network as a tool for discovering interesting information. You get a customized feed made up of the content that your friends shared — from news articles to family photos to interesting links and videos. And your friends get their customized feeds, full of the cool stuff that you’ve shared.

Users tell the feed which networks they belong to (Facebook, Digg, Last.fm, etc.) and FriendFeed personalizes your data feed with info from each of the sites. This is cool stuff.

FriendFeed was acquired by Facebook in August 2009.
