Moteiv Corporation was founded by three University of California, Berkeley students whose PhD research focused on robustness and application building for wireless sensor networks. In November of 2003, we embarked on a project to build a mote whose design was based on software principles important for low power operation in long term deployments. We invented Tmote Sky, a next-generation mote for sensor network applications and the first wireless sensor device to use the IEEE 802.15.4 personal-area-network wireless radio.
