Austin, Texas-based Spiceworks provides ad-supported IT management software for small-to-medium sized businesses. The desktop software allows IT managers to keep track of their network assets, run a helpdesk, monitor activity, receive reports and troubleshoot network problems. The network monitoring is very active providing managers with information on low disk space, unapproved software and status of anti-virus updates.

Another solid feature is the ability to connect with other IT managers. When problems come up you can post questions, submit answers and use group-edited wiki articles, etc. Also, if you think of a feature you wish Spiceworks offered you can make a request, which will be rated and voted on by the rest of the community. The integration of crowd-sourcing should make for a valuable IT feature.
