StrataLight Communications was formed to develop exciting new fiber transmission technology for next-generation long-haul DWDM optical networks. The system products we’re developing are based on proprietary technology that is protected by multiple patents (pending). Our DWDM transport system products are built around a spectrally efficient modulation method for long-haul lightwave transmission. The most important benefits of our technology are a significant reduction in the spectral width of lightwave signals, and tolerance to fiber impairments, allowing very high capacity and longer transmission distances. Spectral narrowing allows much closer channel spacing, without cross talk or filter distortion, increasing spectral efficiency, and results in highly cost effective DWDM transport systems (lowered $/Gb-km).
