Andy Bechtolsheim, Chief Architect

Andy Bechtolsheim, co-founder of Sun Microsystems, Inc. and employee number one, returns to Sun as Chief Architect and Senior Vice President, Network Systems organization and is also a member of Sun's executive management team. In his new role, Bechtolsheim will drive the rapid productization of next generation network server technologies.

Bechtolsheim brings with him over 25 years of Network Computing knowledge and expertise. He was a co-founder of Sun Microsystems where he held a variety of roles including Vice President of Technology and Chief Architect of Sun's highly successful workstation product line. He invented the "Stanford University Network workstation" that eventually became the Sun-1 Workstation and was instrumental in launching other successful Sun products, including the SparcStation¨ 1.

Bechtolsheim left Sun in 1995 to found Granite Systems, a Gigabit Ethernet start-up company, that was acquired by Cisco Systems in 1996. Andy became Vice President of Engineering and later Vice President General Manager of Cisco's Gigabit Systems business which developed the Catalyst 4000 family, the industry's highest volume modular Ethernet switching platform.

Bechtolsheim returns to Sun via the Kealia, Inc. acquisition, a company which he co-founded to develop advanced server technology.

Bechtolsheim received a MS in computer engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in 1976 and he was a PhD student in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at Stanford University from 1977 to 1982. He has been honored with a Fulbright scholarship, a German National Merit Foundation scholarship, the Stanford Entrepreneur Company of the year award, the Smithsonian Leadership Award for Innovation and is a member of the National Academy of Engineering.

Michael Lehman, CFO

Michael has had a long and successful association with Sun, both as an executive and as a board member. Before his career at Sun, Michael was a Certified Public Accountant with Price Waterhouse, and worked in the Milwaukee and San Francisco offices. Michael serves on the board of directors of the University of Wisconsin Foundation and is former chair of the Dean's Advisory Board of the school of business at Madison. He is also on the board of MGIC Investment Corporation. Michael holds a bachelor's degree in business administration, with a major in accounting from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

Crawford Beveridge, Executive Vice President

Crawford W. Beveridge is the Executive Vice President and Chairman, EMEA, APAC and the Americas for Sun Microsystems. He represents Sun's interests in the European Union, Brazil, Russia, India and China, and works with regional governments to influence public policy to ensure a level playing field in technology policy. Before joining Sun in 1985 as Vice President, Corporate Resources, he held HR management positions in the U.S. and Europe with Hewlett-Packard, Digital Equipment Corp. and Analog Devices, Inc.

In 1991, Beveridge left Sun to become the chief executive of Scottish Enterprise, the lead economic development organization for Scotland, with more than 1,700 employees and an annual operating budget in excess of $800 million. After nine successful years, Beveridge returned to Sun in April 2000 as Executive Vice President of People and Places and Chief Human Resources Officer. Beveridge is a non-executive board member of Autodesk Inc., eSilicon and Scottish Equity Partners Ltd.

Joe Roebuck, VP Sales

Joe Roebuck has more than 30 years of experience in computer industry sales and marketing. He was Vice President Worldwide Sales for Sun Microsystems Computer Corporation. He built the sales organization from a force of 14 people and $9 million in sales, to a force of 10,000 sales, systems engineering, and information technology specialists and $18 billion in sales. Joe is credited with building one of the most effective and successful sales organizations in the technology industry. Prior to joining Sun Microsystems, Joe very briefly was Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Osborne Computer, Director of Vertical Marketing and Education Marketing at Apple Computer, and Vice President of Western Sales Area at Honeywell Information Systems. Joe graduated from Cornell University with a BA in Economics, and is a graduate of the AMP Program at the Harvard Business School.

Greg Papadopoulos, CTO/EVP R&D

Greg Papadopoulos is Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at Sun Microsystems, where he is responsible for managing the company's technology and architecture.

Before joining Sun, he was Senior Architect and Director of Product Strategy for Thinking Machines.

He was an Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at M.I.T. and was a development engineer at Hewlett-Packard and Honeywell.

Dr. Papadopoulos has co-founded three companies: PictureTel (video conferencing), Ergo (high-end PCs), and Exa Corporation (computational fluid dynamics).

He holds a B.A. in Systems Science from the University of California at San Diego, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from M.I.T.

Kevin Carroll, Vice President

Kevin Carroll sits on the Board of Directors for Fortress Technologies, Inc. Previously, Mr. Carroll was the Program Executive Officer for the U.S. Army’s Program Executive Office Enterprise Information System (PEO EIS). As PEO EIS, Mr. Carroll was responsible for the program management of critical Department of Defense (DoD) and Army business/combat service support systems, as well as providing key communication and computer infrastructure to the DoD. He was responsible for programs that obligated over $2.5 billion annually.

Santa Clara, Calif. November 6, 2006 Sun Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ: SUNW) today announced that Tony Ridder and Peter Currie have been elected to the company's board of directors. Ridder, a chief executive in the newspaper and internet publishing industry for over 40 years, will join Sun's Leadership Development and Compensation Committee and Currie, a 28-year corporate finance veteran, will join Sun's Audit Committee.

Ridder is the former chairman and chief executive officer of Knight Ridder. He was named chairman and CEO of Knight Ridder in 1995, served as company president beginning in 1989 and joined the corporate staff as president of the Newspaper Division in 1986. Ridder began his career with Knight Ridder when he joined the American News in Aberdeen, S.D., in 1962. Ridder serves on the advisory board of the Center for Economic Policy Research at Stanford University, is a trustee of the Silicon Valley Leadership Group and is a past chairman of the Newspaper Association of America.

Ridder also currently serves on the Board of Directors of The McClatchy Company, the second-largest newspaper company in the United States. Ridder holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Michigan.

Currie is president of Currie Capital LLC. In addition to becoming a member of Sun's board of directors, Currie also serves on the boards of CNET and Safeco and sits on the audit committees of both companies. Currie was formerly executive vice president and chief financial officer of both Netscape and McCaw Cellular. ROBERT J. FINOCCHIO, JR. has served as one of our directors since January 2002 and has been a dean’s executive professor at Santa Clara University, Leavey School of Business since September 2000.
