Stefan Ryser

Dr. Ryser has served as one of our directors since September 1998. He serves on the Board's compensation committee. Since April 2000, Dr. Ryser has served as a managing director of Bear Stearns Health Innoventures, a venture capital fund. Dr. Ryser served as Chief Executive Officer until April 2000, and has served as a member and delegate of the board of International Biomedicine Management Partners Inc. From January 1989 until 1997, Dr. Ryser held various positions at Roche, including Scientific Assistant to the President of Global Research and Development, and was responsible for maintaining the scientific liaison between Roche and Genentech. Dr. Ryser received a Ph.D. degree in molecular biology from the University of Basel.

Herwig von Morzé

Dr. von Morzé joined the Telik Board of Directors in August 2004. He is an international consultant specializing in pharmaceutical patent strategy, patent prosecution and pharmaceutical product life cycle management. Dr. von Morzé most recently was Co-Chair of Heller Ehrman's Patent and Trademark Practice Group. He has directed patent prosecution and enforcement programs in the pharmaceutical industry for more than 25 years.

Jean Deleage

Jean Deleage Ph.D., has served as a director since April 1996. Dr. Deleage is a founder and managing director of Alta Partners, a venture capital firm investing in information technologies and life science companies. Alta Partners was founded in 1996. In 1979, Dr. Deleage founded, and was a managing partner of, Burr, Egan, Deleage & Co., a venture capital firm in San Francisco and Boston. Dr. Deleage was a member of Sofinnova's initial team, a venture capital organization in Paris, and in 1976 formed Sofinnova, Inc. (the U.S. subsidiary of Sofinnova). Dr. Deleage is a member of the board of directors of Rigel Pharmaceuticals, Inc., TorreyPines Therapeutics, Inc. and several private companies. In 1984, Dr. Deleage was awarded the Ordre National du Merite, and in 1993, he was awarded the Legion of Honor from the French government in recognition of his career accomplishments. Dr. Deleage received a Master's Degree from Ecole Superieure d'Electricite and a Ph.D. from the University of Paris, Sorbonne.

Annette Bianchi

Annette Bianchi has 19 years of venture capital experience and significant expertise in all aspects of health care investing including medical devices, biotechnology, healthcare IT, and services. Since 2004 she has been co-head of VantagePoint’s health care practice. Previously, Bianchi was Managing Director with health care venture fund Pacific Venture Group. She began her career in venture capital in 1985 as an associate and subsequently general partner with Burr, Egan, Deleage & Company, where she was the first person at the firm to focus exclusively on health care. In 1992, Bianchi joined Weiss, Peck & Greer Venture Partners as a general partner, investing in both life science and health services companies.

Bianchi holds an MBA from the Wharton School and master’s and bachelor’s of science and engineering degrees also from the University of Pennsylvania.

Steven Goldring

Dr. Goldring joined our Board of Directors in May 2002. He serves on the Board's compensation committee. A highly experienced clinical research leader, he is a Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Chief of Rheumatology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. He also serves as the Director of the New England Baptist Bone and Joint Institute. Dr. Goldring has served as a consultant or Principal Investigator for pharmaceutical industry, foundation and NIH-sponsored research programs, and as a consultant to numerous pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. Dr. Goldring received his medical training at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital. He holds an M.D. degree from the Washington University School of Medicine.

Edward Cantrall

Dr. Cantrall, a consultant to biotechnology and genomics companies, joined our Board of Directors in May 2002. He serves on the Board's audit committee. He was Vice President of Operations at Lederle Laboratories, a division of American Cyanamid Company subsequently acquired by Wyeth. His fields of expertise include pharmaceutical development and manufacturing. Dr. Cantrall holds a Ph.D. degree in organic chemistry from the University of Illinois and an M.B.A. degree in industrial management from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Richard Newman

Richard B. Newman has served as a director of Telik since April 2003. He serves on the Board's compensation committee. Since 1983, Mr. Newman has served as President and Chief Executive Officer of D&R Products Co., Inc., which designs, develops and manufactures orthopedic, vascular and other surgical medical devices and instruments for major medical device and instrument manufacturers in the U.S. and Europe. He has extensive experience in acquiring and operating industrial, real estate and software businesses. Mr. Newman holds an A.B. from Harvard College and a LL.B. from Harvard Law School.

Robert Frick

Robert Frick previously served as the Vice Chairman of the Board, Chief Financial Officer and head of the World Banking Group for Bank of America, as Managing Director of BankAmerica International, and as President of Bank of America's venture capital subsidiary. Now retired, he previously served as a director of Connectify, Inc. from its founding to acquisition by KANA and currently serves on the boards of directors for five private companies. Mr. Frick holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering and an M.B.A. from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.

Mary Gray

ary Ann Gray, Ph.D. joined the Telik Board of Directors in August 2003. She is a member of the Board's nominating committee. Dr. Gray is President of Gray Strategic Advisors, LLC and serves on the Board of Directors of Dyax Corporation. Dr. Gray was a senior analyst and portfolio manager for the Federated Kaufmann Fund, and previously led biotechnology equity research groups at Raymond James & Associates, Warburg Dillon Read and Kidder Peabody. Dr. Gray holds a Ph.D. in pharmacology from the University of Vermont.
