Key People
Management
Cyrus Massoumi, CEO & Founder
Cyrus thought of the idea for ZocDoc after rupturing his eardrum during a flight. He tried to find an ENT specialist, but outdated insurance websites and full schedules made him live in pain for 4 days before he could finally see a doctor. Today, one of the largest ENT practices in Manhattan is on ZocDoc's waiting list and will come online in 2008.
Before starting ZocDoc, Cyrus worked at McKinsey & Company where he focused on healthcare and technology. Prior to that he founded a software company called OneSizeTooSmall and worked at Trilogy Software.
Cyrus holds an MBA with honors from Columbia Business School, where he was the recipient of the Heffernan Award for Outstanding Service, and a BS with honors from Wharton. He lives in Manhattan’s Upper West Side.
Oliver Kharraz, COO & Founder
Oliver is the "Doc" in ZocDoc. Raised in a family with a 300 year old tradition of being doctors, he believes that old-fashioned values can be combined with modern medicine and technology. His vision for ZocDoc is to build a professional service that strengthens the patient-doctor relationship and rewards a "patients first" mindset.
Before co-founding ZocDoc, Oliver was a junior partner at McKinsey & Company where he focused on healthcare technology and Electronic Health Records. Previously he practiced medicine as an ICU physician. During the early 90s he ran an IT startup.
Oliver graduated his MD/PhD degree magna cum laude from the Ludwig-Maximilians-University, Germany. He earned an MA from the Jesuit College of Philosophy, Munich, where he majored in ethics and ontology. He and his wife Bita live on the Upper West Side.
Nick Ganju, CTO & Founder
ZocDoc is Nick’s third startup. He was on the founding teams at Mixonic and eBoodle (acquired by BizRate/Scripps Networks). Prior to ZocDoc, he was CTO of CFX.
Using technology to improve healthcare has been one of Nick’s passions since he was a teenager, when he helped his father setup the IT systems in his medical practice.
When he’s not busy building great products, Nick enjoys playing music. If you’re lucky, you can catch him playing in Washington Square Park.
Nick holds a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Illinois and an MBA from Columbia Business School (May 08).
