Mobius Microsystems Announces Ashok Dhawan as CEO
Experienced industry executive to bring all-CMOS timing technology to huge CE market
Sunnyvale, CA August 6, 2007 –The Board of Directors of Mobius Microsystems Inc., an innovator in
precision timing ICs, today announced the appointment of experienced industry executive Ashok Dhawan as
Chief Executive Officer and elected him to a seat on the Board.
Mr. Dhawan will lead Mobius’ introduction of new products based on the company’s patented CMOS
Harmonic Oscillator (CHOTM) technology, as well as focus on revenue growth and customer base expansion.
Said Mr. Dhawan, “I am very excited by this opportunity at Mobius to bring our all-CMOS precision timing
technology to the huge consumer electronics market, replacing crystals and hereby reducing costs and
increasing reliability in CE products.”
Mr. Dhawan has over 25 years’ experience in the industry in a wide range of leadership responsibilities, and a
track record of successfully growing businesses in short periods of time. Most recently, he was President and
CEO of Inphi Corporation which he transformed from an R&D organization into a business-focused, analog
and mixed signal fabless semiconductor company. Under his leadership, the company achieved profitability,
increased revenue sequentially every quarter, and formed close partnerships with top-tier companies
worldwide.
Before that, he was President of the Broadband Division of Ascend Communications, an Internet access
company. Mr Dhawan launched the division in 1996 and grew the business to $1.2 billion dollar annual
revenue within four years. Subsequently, Ascend was acquired by Lucent in 2000 for $20 billion in the largest
acquisition of its kind to that time.
Previously, he was Executive Vice President of Marketing and Engineering at Raycom Inc/Retix Corp. where
he led development of fiber optic backbone products, gaining Alcatel and IBM as OEM customers. Before
that, he was Vice President of the Communications Business Unit at Emulex Corp where he grew annual sales
from zero to $50 million, and Vice President of LAN Products at Micom Systems taking sales from zero to
$120 million within three years, before Nortel acquired it.
“We are delighted to welcome an executive with such an impressive track record as Ashok’s to lead Mobius,”
said Arvind Purushotham, Board Member and a Managing Director at Menlo Ventures. “ His skills are just
those needed to execute on our vision of building an innovative and fast-growing semiconductor company.”
According to Rich Redelfs, Board Member and General Partner at Foundation Capital, “Ashok brings the
leadership and technology management experience needed to launch Mobius’ standard-CMOS timing
technology into the crystal replacement and silicon timing mass markets.”
Mr. Dhawan holds a B.Tech. degree from IIT Kanpur, and an M.S.E.E. from the Washington State University.
About Mobius Microsystems Inc. (www.mobiusmicro.com)
Mobius Microsystems is an innovator in precision timing ICs, and is the first company to implement highly
accurate timing generators entirely in standard CMOS. This is a significant technical breakthrough in timing
generation, which up to now was served by quartz crystals and crystal oscillators. Mobius’ patented CMOS
Harmonic Oscillator (CHO™) is produced on a single piece of silicon and enables system designers to create
smaller, thinner, and more mechanically robust products. CHO also significantly shortens the manufacturing
cycle time to best respond to fluctuating demands of the various markets the company serves, which include
consumer electronic appliances, storage devices, peripherals, and automotive applications
Mobius Microsystems is funded by leading venture capital firms. Its headquarters are located at 111 W.
