Chris Zegelin
Chris has more than three decades of eclectic experience in technologies ranging from phone systems to wireless to application specific integrated circuits (ASICs). He also holds 15 patents in standards and technology development. Chris has held management positions in technology engineering at Symbol Technologies, Chips and Technology, Wyse, OPCOM and ROLM. He also served as vice chairman of the committee responsible for developing and ratifying the 802.11 WLAN (“WiFi”) standard.
Chris’ zest for fresh challenges was underscored in his last job, as well as in his new position at Zume Life. While running CHZ Consulting, his own consulting firm, he was an engineering fellow at Red Wing Technologies, a Minneapolis engineering and marketing consultancy that works in the industrial control and medical fields. There he helped define a strategy and create products for Zigbee and Wi-Fi radios needed by the firm’s battery-powered sensor designs. Earlier, in a senior post at Symbol Technologies, he created the company’s WLAN Digital Design group. He helped develop Symbol’s WLAN products, including hands-on architectural development for the first-generation 802.11 access points and NICs. Chris was also vice chairman of the committee that initially ratified the 802.11 standard. Significant contributions included the basic wireless access mechanism, power save polling, the element structure and international roaming.
Chris earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering from the University of California at Berkeley.
