Danny Hillis
Danny Hillis is Co-founder of Applied Minds, where he currently serves as Chairman and Chief Technology Officer. He is one of the great spirits of modern engineering, an inventor and scientist who revolutionized the computing industry. Previously Danny was Vice President, Research and Development at Walt Disney Imagineering, and a Disney Fellow. While at Disney, he developed new technologies and business strategies for Disney's theme parks, television, motion pictures, Internet and consumer products businesses. As Co-founder of Thinking Machines, Danny was a pioneer in the development of parallel computers, now the basis for most supercomputers, as well as the RAID disk array technology used to store large databases. He holds over 80 U.S. patents and is the author of The Pattern On The Stone: The Simple Ideas That Make Computers Work. Danny is Co-chair of The Long Now Foundation, and also the designer of a 10,000-year mechanical clock.
Danny is a graduate of MIT, where he earned a BS in Mathematics and an MS and PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS).
