John Adler

John Adler is a Venture Partner with InterWest Partners, a diversified venture firm specializing in information technology and life sciences. With more than 17 years experience in telecommunications, John works with entrepreneurs in the field to bring new ideas and technologies to the commercial marketplace.

Beginning his career with Rockwell International, John focused on the development, system analysis and testing of digital radios, multiplexers and cross-connect systems. Later he had various marketing roles in product management and product marketing for a family of digital cross-connects producing in excess of $2B in sales. John moved into optical networking in 1996 to form and introduce a second generation DWDM platform for Alcatel Telecom and led the team responsible for definition, marketing and profitability.

He joined the founders of Monterey Networks in 1998 to architect and define Wavelength Router technology which pioneered the use of layer 3 intelligence in optical networking systems. Acquired by Cisco for $500M in 1999, John’s responsibilities included product life cycle management, marketing and strategic planning for optical products.

John joined InterWest Partners in 2001 to build new companies in the info rmation technology sector. John co-authored three U.S. Patents and has a BSEE and MBA from Southern Methodist University.
