Burgum had served in key roles at Great Plains since joining the company in 1983. From 1980 to 1983, Burgum was a consultant at McKinsey & Co. in its Chicago office. In July 2002, Burgum led Microsoft's acquisition of Navision A/S, a European-based mid-market software company. The two companies combined to create Microsoft Business Solutions.
Burgum holds an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and serves on the school's advisory board, and also holds a bachelors degree from North Dakota State University.
"SuccessFactors is tackling one of the great problems any business faces around the globe today - helping your most important asset, your people, to fully realize their capabilities and potential," said Burgum. "Given the broad customer base, in large, medium and small business across the world, you can see the great value that SuccessFactors' solutions are delivering today in addressing this universal need."

"I've been a fan of SuccessFactors since we implemented the software at Macromedia three-and-a-half years ago. SuccessFactors helped us drive strategic alignment throughout the company, and best of all, it was up and running on 1,500 desktops in a matter of weeks, not years. I look forward to working with the team at SuccessFactors to bring this service to every company, large or small, where people and results matter," Nelson said.
Lars Dalgaard, CEO of SuccessFactors, said, "We are extremely fortunate to add board members with the character, experience, accomplishment and judgment that Betsey and Doug will bring to SuccessFactors.
