The principal pathology of mitral regurgitation in CHF patients is dilatation of the mitral valve opening. The novel Mitralign system resembles surgical repair as it directly reduces the size of the mitral valve opening. The Mitralign procedure utilizes catheters introduced entirely percutaneously to deliver a series of implants along the perimeter of the valve. The implants are cinched together, reducing the circumference of the dilated opening hence diminishing the mitral regurgitation.«Less
