\n\t\t\tOnyx Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: ONNX) is developing innovative small molecule cancer treatments based on a molecular understanding of cancer. Our drug candidates inhibit the proteins that cause uncontrolled cancerous growth in cells with certain genetic mutations. Our lead product candidate is BAY 43-9006, a novel, orally active signal transduction inhibitor with a dual mechanism of action, inhibiting both tumor cell proliferation and angiogenesis (the formation of new blood vessels to support cancer cell growth). BAY 43-9006 is in Phase III clinical development with our partner Bayer Pharmaceuticals Corporation. In addition, the agent is being studied in two Phase II trials, as well as in eight Phase Ib studies evaluating its use in combination with standard chemotherapies. We also have a small molecule cell cycle inhibitor resulting from a collaboration with Pfizer advancing toward clinical trials in 2004.«Less
