\n\t\t\tVaxart has developed a vaccine delivery system that greatly enhances the adaptive immune response to orally delivered antigens. The vaccine system provides a key stimulatory signal (double-stranded RNA, a Toll-Like Receptor 3 ligand) for dendritic cell activation along with a viral delivery vector (rAd). Vaxart\'s viral vector is based on a safe, non-replicating adenovirus that expresses a key protective antigen from the target pathogen. Viral vector and TLR3 ligand are packaged in particles that are protected from stomach acid by a standard enteric coating, and then released when they reach the interior of the small intestine (lumen). Vector and TLR3 ligand reach the target epithelial cells (EP) where the antigen (Ag) is produced. The combination of live adenovirus delivery together with the stimulatory signal results in significant activation of dendritic cells (DC), leading to protective T cell and B cell (antibody) responses specific for the expressed pathogen antigen.
